We empower artists to

create life-giving art

that nurtures humanity

We believe that artists play a vital role in pointing our world toward the common good. We also know that this can be a difficult, lonely path. Our vision is to make this journey easier — that’s how our story began.

POIEO’s Story

Origins

In 2019, Rev. Young Tae Choi founded POIEO to offer spiritual and professional support to Vancouver’s emerging artists. Meaning “create,” “make,” or “do” in Greek, POIEO soon took shape as a creative community through which young artists could hone their skills and turn them into a sustainable vocation.

Growth

Within just a few years, POIEO had built a team of committed volunteers, mentored over 20 artists, connected members to job opportunities in creative industries, provided guidance for over 50 artistic projects, and celebrated over 40 of its members' awards.

Structure

After its founding in 2019, POIEO was registered as a B.C. Society in 2021. In 2023 it became a registered charity, and in 2025 it became a foundation. Today its mission is supervised by a board of directors and carried out by a team of volunteer artists and staff members.

Today

As a foundation, POIEO is now equipped to expand its support for artists by offering clinical counselling, studio/equipment rentals, and financial support in addition to its community events, spiritual direction, and professional mentorship programs.

POIEO × You

POIEO’s original purpose remains unchanged: to equip artists with the support they need to create life-giving art that nurtures humanity.
